Raise your hand if you do everything for everyone? You seem to put others first so much of the time?
You spend your life working, juggling wife-life, mom-life, errands, household chores, cooking. Girlfriend, you do it all.
Nope? Just me. Didn’t think so.
Think of your priorities. Seriously, stop right now and think about them.
Now, do they ever include yourself? What about first? Are you ever first on your priority list? Like top of the list before kids, husband, home, work.
If you are like me, then I am guessing that you are not always first. I get it, my kids are always my number 1 but at some point I have to stop and pivot. I have to pour back into myself because if I keep giving to everyone else, all of the time, I start to have nothing left to give- not. even. to. myself.
So last year, I had this epiphany. It started with taking a trip, across the country, with no cell phone service, alone. Yep, I left my kids and husband and went on a trip across the country. I traveled alone but met up with 20 other women in my shoes. All thanks to the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. I attended an Empowered Spouses Retreat where literally, life was poured back into my exhausted, hardworking, overwhelmed soul. You can nominate yourself for one here.
Then I had yet another epiphany.

That one single trip, single-handedly changed my life. It made me realize, I NEED, I CRAVE me time. Kinda weird considering I feel alone a lot because of my husband’s job. But it isn’t the same. I love connecting with other spouses WHO GET IT. We have a bond.
But I also love pouring back into myself just because. Because I DESERVE it. And can I tell you something? YOU, my friend, YOU deserve it , too!
So this fall, exactly one year after that amazing trip with those 20 amazing women, we met again. We had a getaway reunion where we could relax and rejuvenate. We traveled to the North Carolina mountains because the mountains are where we first met; it is a sacred space for us.
This beautiful view was on the back deck of our cabin, nestled in the Appalachian mountains. I could relax, sip my hot coffee, and breath life back into my tired body. All because I deserve it.
I am now committed to rewarding myself with self-care, police wife-cations, if you will. I always come back home rejuvenated and feeling like I can conquer the world. Or maybe just armed and ready for 5 night shifts in a row and ready to change an unlimited amount of dirty diapers.
Goodness, it only took me 34 years to realize the importance of this!!
34 years, guys!! Think of how I would feel now if I had been doing this all along? If I had been putting myself first just once in a while.
So I want to challenge you. I want you to commit to yourself that you WILL give back to yourself. Do a little self-discovery and decide what you truly need to recharge and refresh. You deserve it. It doesn’t have to be a trip away like I did, but maybe an afternoon to yourself. If you don’t start to be intentional about this time NOW then when will you?
Tell us how you plan to recharge or refresh now!
