What to wear to a police academy graduation

 

Whether you are a proud girlfriend or wife, you are VERY excited to see your officer get pinned on his up and coming police academy graduation! It may be you standing front and center pinning your officer. You will take a TON of pictures that day, no doubt about it. But what in the world do you wear for this special occasion? It is a VERY popular question that MANY police wives and girlfriends have asked, too.

So before we dive in to some of your options, let me recommend a few things:

1. Pick something comfortable! I can not stress this enough. You may be standing or sitting for long periods of time. Whether it is your shoes or outfit, make sure it is something you can wear long term. Many ceremonies have hundreds of graduates depending on the department, which means you could be at graduation for a long time. While a dress is the way to go, err on the casual side.
2. When in doubt, be modest. I recommend not wearing anything too tight or short. You will be in a LOT of pictures and representing your officer at his new career. If you are pinning your officer then you will be bending possibly or even standing on your tip toes and reaching above you. Make sure your outfit can accommodate that.
3. You don’t have to wear blue and black. Many wives think they HAVE to wear thin blue line colors. While it is supportive and super cute (and I did, too), don’t stress over wearing ONLY those colors. You will have plenty of opportunities over your officer’s career to wear those colors if you wish. If you find other options that are more comfortable and affordable then go with those options. While I do recommend some black and blue dresses below, I provide other options, too. Go with what fits you best!

Simple black dresses

Everyone needs little black dresses, right? Here are a few of my favorites. These are GREAT for police academy graduations but also to keep for other occasions.
