It almost feels like a right of passage to have some kind of police or thin blue line themed photoshoot if you are a law enforcement family. I love seeing all the ideas trending on Facebook or Pinterest. Anywhere from those adorable, little newborn sessions where the baby is holding daddy’s badge to couples draped around the Thin Blue Line Flag during an engagement session. They are all priceless and undeniably meaningful as law enforcement impacts the entire family.
I always see wives searching for some inspiration for an upcoming photoshoot. So why not have a list that you can always refer back to?
Here are some quick and easy ideas to incorporate during a thin blue line photoshoot:
A thin blue ling flag– Kinda obvious, right? Use it to lay on, wrap around your sweet new baby, drape around you as a couple or use it in the background. For our son, we put a flag under him and bought a little diaper cover off Etsy with the thin blue line. It is now one of our favorite pictures!
Handcuffs– but let’s keep it PG, okay? These would be cute next to a newborn baby as a prop or in a wedding or engagement photo. You know, where the wife is hugging her spouse and holding his handcuffs as they lay across his back.
A badge– The ideas are endless! We used my husband’s badge in our son’s newborn pictures. I have also seen people prop wedding bands against them, too!

Police/ thin blue line themed clothing– My favorite shop is Emory Lane Co! They have such trendy, fun shirts to choose from. They also offer apparel for youth. My kids all have something to show their pride, too!
A police or thin blue line themed sign– I see a TON of these on Etsy. We have a super simple “family” sign going down our basement stairs in thin blue line colors.
A patrol car/ police cruiser– Your officer’s actual police car or the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe version for the toddler in your life. Either one would be perfect! 🙂
Police uniform– If your husband feels comfortable, he could wear his uniform during the photoshoot. I actually really love these types of pictures!
Duty belt, radio– Another great prop if you are having baby pictures done!
Donuts– A little cliche, I know, but they do make for a fun and humorous photo! We are having donuts at my son’s police party instead of cake! Also great for a smash cake for a one year old or a graduation party!
Baby onesie– This is pretty specific, but if you plan ahead, you can have a baby announcement complete with an adorable baby onesie.
Patrol boots– Generally these are tall, black boots. I have seen boots positioned on a piece of blue tape for the thin blue line and it always signifies so much meaning!
Blue tape– Perfect for making thin blue lines to stand on or for a backdrop.
Caution/ Crime Scene Tape- Great for a birthday party or graduation party!
K-9– Obviously, only if you have a K-9 in your home, but a family photo would be wonderful that includes the K-9 in your life!
Chalkboard sign to write 10 Codes– Maybe “I do!” and “10-4” for a wedding photo shoot.
Jewelry– Thin Blue Line USA offers police wife bracelets and more! This is a nice way to show support but in a more subtle way.
A thin blue line photoshoot is a great way for your family to show their pride for their officer while keeping some privacy. The pictures are yours to keep in your home, not for the whole world to see. Share with us any fun props or clothing you have used in the comments!
