With Thank a Police Officer Day right around the corner, I wanted to find a new, fairly easy way to show support to our local law enforcement. And these trail mix gift bags for police officers do the trick!
One thing that my husband always eats is trail mix because it gives him great energy, keeps for easy storage in his patrol car, and doesn’t expire quickly. And I have found that making our own trail mix is actually cheaper than buying store-bought trail mix. We also like the option of putting the ingredients we like the most inside (like M&Ms).
Ingredients for Trail Mix Gift Bags for Police Officers:
Blue M & Ms
Black M & Ms- you can purchase M & Ms in bulk from a party store or from Nuts.com (I found they are the cheapest). Or if you are making a smaller batch, a giant bag of M & Ms works fine and you can pull out all blue M & Ms.
Peanuts
Almonds
Cashews
Raisins

Large bowl and spoon for mixing ingredients
To make approximately 12-15 bags you’ll need:
-2 16 oz jars of peanuts
-1 lb of cashews
-1 lb of almonds
-1 lb of raisins
-1 lb of M&Ms
To make approximately 50 bags you’ll need:
-8 16 oz jars of peanuts
-3 lbs of cashews
-3 lbs of almonds
-2 lbs of raisins
-2.5 lbs of M&Ms
We made 15 bags for this round but plan to make the 50 bags for Thank a Police Officer Day.
Assembly instructions:
Brace yourself. This may be the easiest gift bag you have ever put together.
Mix all ingredients together- all nuts, raisins, M & Ms and place in a large bowl.
Mix well.
Prepare black bags by placing the Thin Blue Line sticker on the front of each bag.
Fill bags 3/4 full and zip tight.
I love the little window in these bags because you can see all the ingredients and the pop of color with the Blue M&Ms. Yum!
You can also seal these bags with a mini handhled sealer for extra freshness. I just closed mine with the ziplock but if you are storing for a while then sealing is the best option. This sealer from Amazon has good reviews.
We had our bags all ready to go to pass out at National Night Out in our hometown. We plan to make these again for Thank an Officer Day in September.
