My little ones love decorating the tree and creating new, homemade ornaments every year. The homemade ornaments are always the most sentimental to me and those go on our main tree in our living room.
We also have a small thin blue line tree that we put up in my husband’s man cave every year and this year when decorating it, our kids asked to make special ornaments for it just like they do for our main tree.
In an effort to keep the craft fairly easy, I figured why not do a spin on a classic craft my kids love:
Thin blue line candy canes!
How to make this easy thin blue line craft:
Supplies:
You can easily buy the supplies from WalMart or a craft store like JoAnn’s, but I have also linked them off Amazon below.
Blue Pony Beads– light or dark- your choice. I show both options below.
Assembly:
Brace yourself, this may be the easiest craft you kids ever do. {And the former teacher in me has to note that this is a great fine motor activity for young ones}.
I first cut the black pipe cleaners in half for my kids.
Then let them decide which pattern they wanted to create with the blue and black beads. They each choose to alternate blue and black beads and thread them on the pipe cleaner.
It is easiest to keep the pipe cleaner straight, then you can easily bend the pipe cleaner with beads into the candy cane shape.
To keep the beads in place, just fold either end of the pipe cleaner around the last bead (on the top and bottom of the candy cane) to ensure they don’t fall off. This may be a step you want to do as pipe cleaners can be semi-sharp.
We used both light and dark blue beads to see which ones we liked better. You can see both options below:

Then add them to your Christmas tree or pass out as a gift or token of appreciation to law enforcement.
That’s it! The easiest thin blue line craft your little ones will ever make.
