While working from home is NOT everyone’s cup of tea, it is surprisingly a very popular question that I get asked from many of you. I think so many of us are desperately trying to figure out a work and home life balance. Many of you want to be home with your children and I completely understand that. But many of you feel that working from home will give you a sense of relief and reduce stress around your work and home life.
Juggling around the law enforcement schedule is no easy feat for anyone. It can be hard on the officer, police wife and children. It can certainly be done- kudos to all those wives I see working full time jobs, managing the household and children around these crazy schedules.
But if you are that wife or mama that is craving some sort of relief then working from home may be for you. Staying home would allow you to see your officer more, have your children see their father on a more consistent basis, help you feel closer to your spouse and possibly reduce any loneliness you may be feeling in your relationship.
There are definitely pros and cons that you and your family would have to weigh. But if you feel like working from home would be the best solution for your family, here are a list of legit ways to make money from home. I am only sharing ways that I have personally tried or trusted friends have tried. All of these options take work obviously and vary on the amount of money you could make. Anywhere from extra cash each month, to part time, to full time.
Before I share this list though, I must say this. Only do something you love and have a passion for. You need a sense of drive and determination to work from home and if you don’t love what you are doing, then it is going to be down right hard to do it every week. Think about what you are good at, have interests in, or have a background or degree in- start there and start brainstorming. Maybe this list will spark some ideas for you!
Legit ways to work from home:
Your trade: Let’s start here. Like I mentioned above, you should try to find something that you have an interest in-always the best option! Think about past jobs you have had or maybe your trade and think if it could be done at all from home. Jobs like hairdressing, business/office jobs, etc. have the possibility to morph into at home jobs. If you work in an office and your job is primarily on the computer, assess the situation to see if any work that you do could be done remotely. You won’t know until you ask, right?
Amazon: Amazon always seems to have virtual jobs available and their openings peek during the holidays. If you are just looking for seasonal work then keep your eye out during November for an easy customer service job.
VIPKIDS: If you have a teaching or early childhood background then this could be a great opportunity for you. I actually did apply with VIPKIDS when they first started but the hours did not work for me. You are teaching kids in China, so you have to be available usually in the early morning (like 5 am) or very late at night (9 or 10 pm). I have a friend who teaches with them and she LOVES it. She gets to stay home with her kids during the day and work when they are sleeping. She chooses her own hours, too!
Blogging: Of course I would recommend this- I am a blogger! If you are passionate about a certain topic and long for a creative outlet then blogging may be for you. I will say this, blogging is hard work (I put in 25+ hours per week) and you REALLY have to know what niche or topic you want to blog about. You don’t make a ton of money for the hours you put in, but to me, it is worth it. It is also my passion and outlet because I love writing. You get paid mostly from ads on your site (not much) and if you work with any brands doing sponsored posts writing about products you know, use and love. Direct Sales: I am sure we all know about MLM companies, right? I know some women that do VERY well in this sort of market. Again, I would look for a company that fits an interest of yours or passion. Then dig deep reading about that company and learning as much as you can. Look at your profits, do you want to host parties or not, ship product or not, how much time away from your family, etc. If you are going to make a steady income then realize you typically earn what you put into it.
Virtual Assistant: I surprisingly know a lot of people that take on virtual assistant work. When my blog first started I was an virtual assistant, also. Every job depends on your skill level. I took on small jobs helping other new bloggers to get their sites up and running. Think about your skills and market yourself based on those. There are a ton of facebook groups about virtual assistant work. One I follow is The Virtual Savvy- the page is great and the owner, Abbey, also has a closed group where you can find and post jobs! Also check out The Bootstrap VA!
Graphic Design, Freelance Writer, Business help, etc: The go-to site for this is Fiverr. They are always looking for experienced online help. If you have experience in these areas, then you can find jobs based on your hours and pay scale. It is all on-demand and great if you need some extra income!
In-home childcare: If you already have a little one (or more) at home then this can be a great way to stay home! You could just do before and after school care, especially if your officer is sleeping during the day. If he is not, then maybe providing all day care is an option. I know a few moms that have made a full-time income doing this.
Surveys: Here is a post about 6 companies that will pay you to take surveys from Crystal at Money Saving Mom. This can be time consuming, but if it brings in extra money, why not?
Overall, remember to choose something that fits your family best and that you have an interest in. Whether you just need side money or a full time income, there are a lot of options, but only the ones you truly believe in will work for you!
